One of Raine’s responses on the league’s “never ending issues”

There have been a lot of complaints raised by teams in the league regarding penalties, uniforms, violations, etc. These “issues” have been heard and given much careful thought by the tournament committee headed by Raine Romero (of Team Dragoons). I’m quoting one of her email response to such issues below:

After much deliberation, the committee decided to count all sets of the game between Esthetica and Teleperformance for reasons that Esthetica made their complaint AFTER the 1st match has already been played; and that the said player of teleperformance was in a uniform of the same color. The committee recognizes that such an issue was never a problem with the rest of the teams in the league as made clear during the game of Esthetica and wherein team Esthetica asked for their approval, before the match started, regarding 3 of their players without uniforms. This decision is FINAL.

On the fines and penalties, the issue has already been explained. It will be imposed.

Team representativs have always been privileged to speak their minds in this tournament, heard, and considered for whatever issues they want to raise up. Registration fees on its own do not cover the expenses of this tournament. In case it you don’t realize it, this is a business, not a charitable institution – courts are paid for despite being an inhouse tournament and everyone is aware that our court hours do not come cheap – and that’s just part of the expenses.

I suggest that next time anyone decides to join the tournament, read everything carefully. If you don’t agree on any part of it then don’t join.

I apologize to the other team representatives for having to go through the inconvenience of receiving the past exchange of emails. A bunch of you have made clear your sentiments about this and I thank you.

Game 10: E-Telecare vs Hero TV

25-23; 14-25; 15-25

Miss Player of the Game: Lucky!!!

The team seemed hopeless at first as only 7 of us attended the game last Saturday against HeroTV. Most of the players who were not able to come had previous commitments, some had emergencies, visit to the dentist, sked problems, and a few were just not in the mood and has given up. Thanks to the 7 people who came, team E-Telecare survived another game forfeiture. As always, Irene arrived at the last minute.

The first set was obviously the best as team E-Telecare managed to give HeroTV an upsetting first set loss. They started with their second stringers and perhaps thought that our team was such a weak team no one could even spike the ball properly during the 5-minute warmup. They were wrong because we fought hard and earned each point we made. At the 20-20 all mark, they subbed their top players but it was just too late. The momentum was on E-Telecare’s side and we were so determined to win we actually won, 25-23.

When your game is off, all aspects of it is off. Out of at least 6 jump serves I made throughout the game, only one went in. The team was relying on me for offense but all my attacks were off target. Even reception has become a weakness. Good thing we have Lucky who, for the very first time since game 2, played as an Open Spiker. His consistency was enough to let us win the first set. Ivan provided good defense while Ernest and Arky’s setting were also consistent — at least less careless violations. As for Lots and Irene, ummmm they both get A+ for attendance. Team Hero TV had to use their top players all the way to ensure they win the second and third sets.

This game proves that anything can happen in the game of volleyball. We had fun causing upsets to top teams like Hero TV.

Game 49: E-Telecare vs

Last Friday, eventhough we lost in 3 sets, we played our best game against Team Pioneer as we managed to score 20+ points on all sets. The Saturday game against one of the top teams of the league, Sideout, was almost a game forfeiture. Thanks to the people who came just in the nick of time. Our game this coming Saturday (Nov. 4) will be an exciting one. Hopefully more players can attend.

The following people still owes the team the corresponding amount. I need the payment this coming Saturday so please find a way to settle this. For the Makati people, please give your payments to Arky if you’re not attending this Saturday’s game. Thanks

Melvin P190
Alliver P220 + P190 = P410
Lucky P190
Ivan P220 + P190 = P410
Ina P220 + P190 = P410
Sonny P190

Game 40: E-Telecare vs Benilde

Game 40: E-Telecare vs Benilde 2:30pm

After going against the defending champs the last time, we were up against the leauge’s 1st runner up Team Benilde this time. In my opinion, they are the most solid team in the tournament mainly because all of them have been playing together for a long time. Benilde came in well prepared before the game started and Team E-Telecare can’t help but notice how disciplined they are as they did their usual team warmup. Unfortunately, not all of us attended the game. Ina have attendance problems at work; Melvin has been assigned to Alabang; Alliver and Cesar were busy; Irene had to rush her kid to the hospital (but at least she dropped by for the picture taking). With previous games, the first set has always been the team’s strongest. During this game however, it was one error after another. A combination of service errors, bad reception, and careless violations were commited. Eventhough Arky (the team’s main setter) was able to set the ball properly most of the time, Benilde’s solidness as a team was just too much. The second set came out to be the best set for Team E-Tel during this game wherein the team showed more team work and consistency (specially in the service department). Thanks to coach Jappy’s constant reminders (or should I say encouragement via mocking/cursing/etc.), the team exerted more effort in commiting less errors. I, on the other hand, went against Jappy’s advice on serving the ball easy to make sure it goes in rather than going for the kill. Good thing it worked out okay as I managed to pull up 3-4 straight points off my jump serves. (Then the next jump serve was straight to the net as I got exhausted). The team started out very well but could not end it strong as Benilde won the second set. The third set was a ‘mix and match’ strategy too late.

This game showed us that eventhough we sometimes go inside the court with half of the lineup missing, we are still capable of playing as a team. As opposed to our first few games, we had complete attendance but there was not a team. Kudos also to Bride and Lots, our 2 female players who played their best all throughout the game (since they did not have any other choice).

25-12; 25-14; 25-16

From liquid back to air (stock) cooling

myrig03.JPG myrig02.JPG myrig04.JPG
It’s been over a month now since I had to switch back to air cooling. I’ve been using a Thermaltake Big Water SE liquid cooling system since the day I built my Athlon64 PC. It was a joy having to figure out how to fit in the Big Water system inside an all-aluminum Lian-Li casing (PC-07B). I had to mount the large 12cm radiator outside rather than inside the casing. But after about 9 months of usage, the liquid pump gave out and would not circulate the coolant anymore. I had to disassemble the Big Water system which did not come out to be as hard as I thought it would be. From CPU Idle temp of 34C, it’s now at 39C using the stock AMD CPU air cooler. If I don’t find a way to get a replacement liquid pump, then perhaps I’ll sell my Big Water SE to Tipidpc.

Game 32: E-Telecare vs Fusion

25-10; 25-19; 25-11

Team E-Telecare bowed down to defending champs Team Fusion (who are composed of former La Salle top gunners). The first set ended quickly as the champs pounded on Team E-Telecare with powerful smashes. The second set was a lot better but due to careless errors, Fusion’s second stringers capitalized and won the second set. All throughout the game, the team’s poor blocking has been a key factor specially when you’re up against a strong team that relies on combo plays. On the blocking department, the team did get a few good solid blocks (c/of Arky, Sonny, and Raj) but consistency was never displayed. Team E-Tel tried to mix and match the third set but it was too late.

On the other hand, the games that we have played so far allowed us to know each and every one’s strengths and weaknesses. The team have not played its full potential yet due to a lot of problems going on in and out the court. However, each game we play gets us closer in becoming a better team.

Game 27: E-Telecare vs Dragoons

25-16; 25-7; 25-15

Kumusta naman Pilipinas!!! Our game against Dragoons was another loss in 3 sets but on the positive side, we played fairly well as a team in terms of supporting each other in and out the court. Most importantly, we had a good time in this moment of defeat. As usual, using Sonny’s strategy/plays, we started out strong and answered the opponent’s offense with our own (c/o Alliver who happens to be our Mr.Energy Player of the Game). Ernest showed consistency with his setting skills while our team libero Lucky, provided the team’s main line of defense (but would seem to falter when it comes to Charlie Ponce’s powerful spikes — bakit kaya?). Eventhough we eventually lost the first set, the players in the court were full of enthusiasm and passion all throughout the first set — the way we should have been playing since the start of the tourney.

Kudos to our “Kumusta naman Pilipinas” coach Jappy who was able to maintain his composure by keeping his cool all throughout the game without cursing!!! (sarcasm? hehe). On the second set, the team tried mixing and matching players (as what we always do during the previous games). But we just could not match up with the opponent’s solidness as a team. Ivan’s powerful open spikes and the blocking skills of Raj were not enough to prevent Charlie and the Dragoons from taking the second set with a commanding lead. (You can’t help but notice that eventhough he plays for Dragoons, you can see from Charlie’s eyes that he wished he was playing for E-Telecare — perhaps because of a special someone who cheers for E-Telecare all the time, hehe).

The thrid set came out to be as bad as the previous one. Sonny and I seemed to have lost fuel and committed a lot of errors. I tried to kill the ball every time I had the chance to but it was fatigue that killed my game all throughout the match. Alliver remained to be the only offensive spark for the team because of his never-give-up attitude. We should also commend Irene and our 2 new female players Bride and Lota for doing their best — Is the P6,000 worth it? (siyempre).

Team E-Telecare

So far, we have played 3 games and got 10 points. Here’s our game results:

Game 4: E-telecare lost to Teleperformance (25-22; 18-25; 5-25)
Game 8: E-telecare lost to Kampo (12-25; 28-30; 21-25)
Game 24: E-telecare lost to Esthetica (17-25; 15-25; 15-25)

You can view the current team standings and game sked at the Club650 website. After all the drama, we managed to play these games with a mixture of both frustration and achievement. Let’s make the most our of our remaining games by playing as a team and most importantly enjoy playing volleyball. One big fight!

So teammates, what do you think went wrong during our first few games? What should we do then to improve?
